Zinkgruvan - Run of Mine

Zinkgruvan Run of Mine is a unique underground running event. On Saturday, 5 September 2026, we will stop all mine traffic and invite runners to experience our operations in a completely unique way.

The race starts at the Knalla Mine Museum, and two kilometres later participants head underground. The underground road has a 15% incline. The turning point is located at the 350‑metre level, from where the route climbs back up to the surface. The running event is organized together with the ski club Zinkgruvans IF, and the proceeds from the registrations go to the club’s important activities for children and youth.

Quick facts and course layout

  • Saturday, 5 September 2026
  • Start and finish: Knalla Mine Museum, Zinkgruvan.
  • Run of Mine: 10 km. The course for the main Run of Mine is 4 km above ground and 6 km underground. You descend 350 vertical metres into the mine – and climb the same distance back up!
  • Run of Mine: 6 km. The shorter Run of Mine has fewer elevation metres and includes 2 km underground.
  • Youth race: 5 km. The youth race starts at Knalla Mine Museum and goes 500 metres down into the mine. Ages 11–14.
  • Children’s race: The entire children’s race takes place above ground in varied terrain. Ages 7–10.
  • Age limits: 10 km and 6 km: 15 years. Youth race: 11–14 years. Children’s race: 7–10 years.
  • All runners must wear a helmet during the race (a mining helmet can be borrowed on site).
  • Number of entries: 600
  • Registration fee: 10 km: 500 SEK, 6 km: 400 SEK, Youth race: 200 SEK, Children’s race: 100 SEK
  • A t-shirt is included in the registration fee.
  • Organisers: Zinkgruvans IF in cooperation with Boliden Zinkgruvan.
