Boliden 100th anniversary magazines
To celebrate Boliden’s 100th anniversary, we produced a series of four magazines, each representing a distinct era of our history.
Part 1: 1924-1945
Technology under constant development
On December 10, 1924, a discovery was made that would have a major impact for many years to come. The goldbearing ore that was discovered in Fågelmyran in Västerbotten County laid the foundation for the company we know today as Boliden. This, our first centenary year magazine, takes a closer look at how exploration work proceeds. We will also discuss why technological advances are an important reason for our successes.
Part 2: 1946-1978
Health and Safety
In the decades after World War II, Boliden made a number of discoveries that would be developed into mines. It also invested in new business areas, such as the production of chemicals. While this, our second centenary year magazine, describes how operations in the mines work, it mainly talks about how our efforts in both the mines and smelters have improved safety over the years.
Part 3: 1979-2001
Doing the job
During the 1980s, Boliden began working according to a new strategy – the operation would go international. A new major owner also entered the scene, which came to have major consequences. This, our third centenary year magazine, focuses on people who do the work and how the company works to recruit the right personnel. We also show how a smelter functions.
Part 4: 2002-2024
For generations to come
At the end of 2003, Boliden concluded a big, important deal with the Finnish company Outokumpu, and thanks to the deal, New Boliden became one of the world's leading mining companies. This, the fourth and last centenary year magazine, focuses on environmental issues. We describe how reclamation work in mining areas proceeds and what the metals Boliden produces are used for.
